From the Academy Award®-winning director and world-renowned Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki comes PONYO, a story inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Little Mermaid.” Already a box-office success in Japan, the story of a young and overeager goldfish named Ponyo (voiced by NOAH CYRUS) and her quest to become human features an outstanding roster of voice talent, including CATE BLANCHETT, MATT DAMON, TINA FEY, FRANKIE JONAS, CLORIS LEACHMAN, LIAM NEESON, LILY TOMLIN and BETTY WHITE.

Youth Rally 'Set Free' with Fr. Stan Fortuna

Fr. Stan Fortuna has been playing music since the 2nd grade when his father gave him his first instrument for Christmas - a red electric guitar! His love for music grew into early adulthood as he began the life long journey of learning the art of improvising by practicing countless hours and playing lots of sessions in the New York area. It was during that time that Fortuna began hearing his true calling in life and was eventually ordained a Roman Catholic priest. He is one of the eight original members of the Community of Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, a community established in the Archdiocese of New York under the jurisdiction of John Cardinal O'Connor in 1987. Fr. Stan established Francesco Productions (www.francescoproductions.com) in 1987, a non-profit company which produces his music, teaching tapes and videos. He established the non-profit recording company to assist the poor and to evangelize Christ's Word through his music. From Contemporary Christian to Jazz, Folk, Reggae and Rap, this incredible musician and composer has produced music for the enjoyment of all ages and walks of life. He has released numerous CD's of original music and standards, arranged in his very special style. All proceeds from sales go to the Community's hands-on work with the poor.

Although Fr. Stan lives in the South Bronx where he serves the poor and needy families, he is internationally known for his music as well as for his powerful preaching. Fr. Stan travels extensively, performing his music and proclaiming the Gospel at conferences, retreats, and both national and international youth prayer festivals. He has been a featured speaker at Franciscan University's High School Age Youth Conferences and Youth 2000 events for several years. He has also appeared numerous times on EWTN's Life on the Rock.

In January 1999, Fr. Stan was asked to preach and perform at the youth rally in St. Louis during Pope John Paul's visit. He is now serving full time in the preaching apostolate using his gift of music, a powerful means to reach deep into the heart and soul of both the young and old throughout the world.

International Food Fair!

Last Sunday, Seria parish had an International Food Fair event after the morning mass.

We had a lot of different food available for everyone to satisfy their taste buds.

Not only that, it was also an 'Icon sale' for the article store where items are sold at a cheaper price to get rid of most of the old stock that has been piling up in the store itself.

We also had some song dedication requested by some parishioners, songs sang by volunteered youths and also the best stall decoration for the food fair.

Vicariate Young Adult: Belalong Trip

On Monday, 20th July was a public holiday in Brunei and the Vicariate Young Adult (VYA) planned a trip to Belalong which is situated in Temburong District itself.

We started off the day with breakfast in COLA parish and headed off to the jetty at around 7:00AM.

It was about a 45minutes boat ride to Temburong District and it was a pleasant journey aside from the slightly stinking river...

Upon arrival we had to take another bus ride to Batang Duri and catch another boat ride to the canopy

So much greens and cool air

Water is fantastic!!! cool water!!! CLEAN water!!!

Youth Life Nite

Another Vicariate Praise and Worship event for the youths and this time it was held in COLA Parish.

The event itself had of course the praise and worship session,

An Ice Breaking Game....lots of screaming!!!!! (We're serious)

short skit by the COLA Youths,

Meditation session...which I doubt half the time the youths were meditating or doing their reflections....

I can assure you they were enjoying the pictures played during the slide show hehehe!

and then some more praise and worship,

Those whos birthday lies on the month of June or July were asked to go on stage and everyone sang happy birthday with a cute tune to it =)

Reduce Global warming thus assuring future exsistence of our next generation

"Global warming is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface air and oceans since the mid-twentieth century, and it is projected to continue.

Increasing global temperature will cause the sea levels to rise, and is expected to increase the intensity of extreme weather events. Other effects of global warming include changes in agricultural yields, trade routes, glacier retreat, many species extinctions and increases in the ranges of diseases.

The increasing frequency of heat waves in the temperate zones, typhoons, hurricanes and floods are signs of the changing weather and climate patterns and all these come about largely due to global warming -a combination of the greenhouse effect and other natural phenomena like solar variation and volcano eruptions. Unless drastic measures are taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, global warming will continue to worsen.

According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 77,000 deaths are recorded annually in the Asia-Pacific region due to health problems arising from global warming. Among the potential hazards of global warming would be the appearance of mosquitoes in areas where they are previously absent with the accompanying threat of malaria and dengue fever. There is also the risk of reduced rainfall in some regions causing a shortage of fresh water thus introducing the danger of waterborne diseases.

However, global warming can be reduced by using garbage enzymes. So do your bit and help reduce global warming for a cooler and healthier living environment for all of us!

A great evening to look forward to watch Transformers 2 with the youths and social comm members in bandar...plus Bishop too! hehe!

Followed by a small makan-makan at Big Papa's in Kiulap where we discuss about the movie. (Catholic views on the movie!)

Sunday, 28th June 2009, was the closing of the Pauline Year and also the Gotong Royong day (Cleaning Campaign) that was held after the morning mass (Of course after the parishioners breakfast too! =))

We have set our Hope on the Living God

That's the theme of this year Youth Festival Praise 2009.

About 100 over youths participate in this lively, full-spirited event with songs that made everyone dance for the Lord! A yearly event carried out during the Brunei school holidays which brings all 3 parishes from Kuala Belait, Bandar Seri Begawan, Temburong and not forgetting the host parish for this years' F.O.P, SERIA!!!! *Yay!!!*

Alright people!!! The Youth Festival of Praise is coming right up this weekend! 2 more days and the clock is still ticking!

I don't know if the accomodation problem has been solved since it was announced last week during mass that Seria needed more families to foster the participants from Bandar and Temburong. But I do hope it all goes well and for more information, you can always check out the COOL Youth page here!
